Current Job Posting: Tenured or Tenure-Track College of Engineering Faculty Position, Department of Biomedical Engineering, the University of Michigan

The Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Michigan (bme.umich.edu), a joint department between the College of Engineering and the Medical School, is seeking to fill a tenured/tenure-track faculty position at any rank in our College of Engineering track. In alignment with our departmental strategic vision, we are searching for outstanding researchers with expertise in AI and AI applied to biomedical engineering research areas. Successful applicants will also be expected to contribute to teaching AI in biomedical engineering.

Required qualifications include a Ph.D. in engineering or other relevant science-related discipline anddemonstrated excellence in and a commitment to teaching, research, and scholarship. M.D./Ph.D. candidates are also encouraged to apply. Job Summary

Applications are invited for a Lecturer (full-time teaching faculty) in the Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at the University of Michigan. The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated teaching team focused on experiential learning, engineering design, and professional development of biomedical engineers.

The BME Department at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (bme.umich.edu) is a joint department between the College of Engineering and the Medical School. It harnesses intellectual and physical resources from across campus to create a world-class learning environment. Applications from individuals in all areas of biomedical engineering and related disciplines will be considered. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:

Bioinstrumentation – knowledge and experience in software that supports biomedical instrumentation, such as LabView and supporting our current courses in this space.
Biocomputation – Statistics, AI and machine learning in biomedical engineering.
Biomedical Engineering Design – Knowledge in modeling, simulation, Capstone Design

Responsibilities:

The main responsibilities of this position are:

Teaching of undergraduate biomedical engineering courses, with an emphasis on engineering fundamentals, bioinstrumentation, biocomputation and/or design. Teaching load is expected to be up to 4 courses per academic year, and course assignments will depend on expertise, interest, and departmental needs.
Contribution to curricular development and continuous improvement of the BME curriculum through departmental service and professional development.

Required/Desired Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD in engineering or the physical sciences, or a BS/MS degree with significant and relevant industry experience. Desired qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to teaching and education, as well as a strong motivation to improve the educational experience and engage students in experiential learning.

This position is planned at the level of Lecturer III and is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers’ Employee Organization.
