SUGS MSE Curriculum Information
SUGS Curriculum
Under the guidance of BME faculty advisors, Sequential Undergraduate/Graduate Studies (SUGS) students work toward a course of study in one of five concentrations.
All Concentrations
- BME Graduate Curriculum (You may need your U-M login to access this.)
- AMPED Program website (MEng degree details)
Forms
All undergraduate and graduate student forms are now available on the BME INTRANET in the Student Resources > Forms section. You will need to log in using your M+Google (Level 1) account. If you are unable to access these files please contact bme-web@umich.edu for assistance.

It takes some planning and organization to make the most of SUGS. Academic Advisor Tara McQueen (taract@umich.edu) can help you navigate the program both before and after you earn your B.S.E. Once you’re in the M.S.E program you may also be referred to a faculty graduate advisor.
Concurrent Courses
You may count nine credits or about two “concurrent” courses toward the M.S.E. degree. They must, however, be taken before you receive your undergraduate degree.
Transition to Graduate Program
You should graduate with your B.S.E. degree at the end of the term in which your degree requirements are met, at which point your university standing will be changed to the M.S.E. degree level.
- First semester, full time graduate students register after the freshmen have registered under “Rackham” (not Undergraduate Engineering or LS&A).
- Any course used to fulfill the SUGS masters must have a final grade of “B” or better.
Graduation Requirements
- You must complete a diploma application online and your final academic audit.
- You must complete the B.S.E. degree within one semester of enrolling in the SUGS program.
- You may participate in the appropriate graduation ceremony for your B.S.E. degree and again, when you receive your M.S.E. degree.
