This summer, two career events for BME doctoral students are planned as part of our regular student professional networking series The BME Exchange.
Topics for the events were chosen based on BME student survey data. The June 25th session, hosted in the Lurie Biomedical Engineering Building’s Commons, examined Career Opportunities in Academia for BME Ph.D.’s. Panelists at the June event included BME faculty from teaching, tenure, and research tracks:
- Dr. Kathleen Panagis, U-M BME Alumna and Lecturer III
- Dr. E. Peter Washabaugh, U-M BME Alumnus and Assistant Professor of BME, Wayne State University
- Dr. Ryan Wyllie, U-M BME Assistant Research Scientist
Dr. Mary-Ann Mycek, U-M BME’s William and Valerie Hall Department Chair and Professor of Biomedical Engineering, also attended the event and encouraged students interested in academic careers to apply to participate in annual multi-day workshops on the topic, including U-M’s NextProf Nexus and the Rising BME Scholars Regional Conference.
The next BME Exchange networking event will be held on Wednesday, July 24th, 12-1:30 p.m., at U-M’s North Campus Research Complex (NCRC) and will focus on Career Opportunities in Industry for BME Ph.D’s. Register here; lunch will be provided. More details will be available soon.
