Sean Chambers has been involved in research and product development at Cook Medical (Bloomington, IN) since 2006. After 10 yrs of research collaboration in interventional MRI (iMRI), Sean was part of the founding leadership team that created Cook’s iMRI division in 2024. He is currently the Director, R&D for the iMRI division which launches commercial products in 2026. Prior to 2006, Sean was the Research Manager at MC3, Inc. (Ann Arbor, MI), an incubator/accelerator company focused on translating university derived technology for medical devices. He was the PI on 7 NIH SBIR grants totaling $2.5M during his tenure. A core product, BioLungTM, led to the founding of NovaLung GmbH (Hechingen, Germany) in 2003, which exited in a sale to Xenios (Heilbronn, Germany) in 2013. He was a visiting Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering department at the National University of Ireland, Galway from 1998-1999 where he was involved in developing the Biomedical Engineering curriculum and a multi-disciplinary grant resulting in the creation of the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science.
Sean completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering at the University of Michigan in 1998 and his B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1993. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and an AIMBE Fellow.
