Biography

Dr. Joyce Yan-Ran Wang leads PixAIL (Precision Imaging × Artificial Intelligence Laboratory) at the University of Michigan, where her team develops advanced machine learning methods at the interface of computer vision and biomedical data science. Prior to joining Michigan, Dr. Wang was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Stanford’s Center for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine & Imaging (AIMI) and earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from Northwestern University.

PixAIL tackles core machine learning challenges motivated by healthcare, including multimodal foundation models, multimodal reasoning & post-training, reinforcement learning, and generative modeling for healthcare applications. The lab is dedicated to advancing biomedical AI technologies that improve healthcare safety, enable automated diagnosis, and drive precision medicine in areas such as oncology and cardiology.
