Dr. Dhanalakshmi (Dhanu) Thiyagarajan (Thiyag) completed undergrad at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering as a biomedical engineer. She completed medical school at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University then completed her OBGYN residency at University of Illinois at Chicago. She is currently a Global Women’s Health Fellow and pursing an MPH at University of Michigan.

Biography

Dr. Thiyag is passionate about ensuring her patients understand their medical care and providing them with the tools to advocate for themselves. Her dedication to OBGYN stems from the desire to provide comprehensive care via medical or surgical methods throughout the lifetime of her patients.

She has received a variety of research awards, leadership awards, professionalism awards, and research/start-up grants. She was administrative chief of her residency program. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, being a foodie and reading. She is fluent in Tamil.

Research Interests

Dr. Thiyag specializes in general obstetrics and gynecology including preventative medicine, prenatal and postpartum care, labor and delivery management, medical and surgical management of gynecology conditions, and contraception.

Dr. Thiyag focuses on global health medical innovation by developing devices and processes to improve women’s health in low- and middle-income countries. She is also interested in stimulation models for medical education.
