The third cohort of students in U-M BME’s Advanced Medical Product Engineering & Development (AMPED) program will be graduating in May with their Master’s of Engineering (MEng) degrees. This class consisted of 31 engineers who are pursuing careers in the medical device industry. On Monday, April 13, all seven project teams presented their final New Product Development (NPD) concepts before an audience consisting of clinicians, technical mentors, instructors, fellow students, and friends and family. The device concepts ranged from low-risk Class I devices to higher risk Class III devices, over a range of clinical areas. Presentations covered the key elements of clinical need, design control, risk management, regulatory path, and product opportunity.
