BME to Host the Alan J. Hunt Memorial Lecture and Reception on November 7

The Alan J. Hunt Memorial Lecture was endowed in 2013, established in loving memory of Alan by his family, friends and numerous colleagues in U-M BME.

Sridevi Sarma, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Graduate Education, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Institute for Computational Medicine, and PI of Neuromedical Control Systems Group, Johns Hopkins University, will be the 2025 featured Alan J. Hunt Memorial Lecturer.

Dr. Sarma received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Department at MIT. 

The Alan J. Hunt Memorial Lecture was endowed in 2013, established in loving memory of Alan by his family, friends and numerous colleagues in U-M BME. Professor Alan J. Hunt received his B.A. degree in biochemistry and cell biology in 1986, from the University of California, San Diego, and his Ph.D. in biophysics in 1993 from the University of Washington.  He was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Colorado from 1994 through 1998.  He began his career in Ann Arbor as an assistant professor in 1998, was promoted to associate professor with tenure in 2004 and was promoted to professor in 2010.

Professor Hunt was a truly talented and inspiring teacher. He helped to design a modern biomedical engineering curriculum with a strong focus on principles of cellular and molecular engineering. He served as a caring and supportive mentor to 10 Ph.D. students who have gone on to distinguished careers in academia and industry.
