Congratulations to BME students Brooke Gietzen (rowing), Kathryn Ackerman (Women’s Swimming and Diving), Mert Oral (men’s tennis) and Owen MacKenzie (Men’s Track and Field/Cross Country), who were announced as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars on Tuesday, June 25. The Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honor is awarded to student-athletes who recorded a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year. Michigan’s 139 Big Ten Distinguished Scholars mark the seventh consecutive year with at least 70 honorees and second straight year with at least 130. A record 139 U-M student-athletes earned the distinction for their work in the classroom during the last academic year.
