U-M BME Students Volunteer to Highlight STEM Careers During Annual ‘One Day Closer for a Cure’ Event

Students and volunteers had the opportunity to show high school students what a career in STEM looks like and how to navigate their own path to college.

U-M BME undergrad students volunteered this past weekend at Rogel Cancer Center’s One Day Closer for a Cure event. Researchers and clinicians hosted area high school students and their parents to learn about cancer research through interactive activities, short research discussions and lab tours. The goal of this annual session is to inspire the next generation of scientists and clinicians to continue the fight against cancer.

This year’s event was a big success, with more than 130 guests from southeast Michigan. Students and volunteers had the opportunity to show high school students what a career in STEM looks like and how to navigate their own path to college, whatever that may look like.
