U-M BME faculty among Class of 2023 BMES Fellows

BMES honors U-M faculty at annual conference

Congratulations to two U-M BME faculty who have been named to the Class of 2023 Fellows of the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES).

David Kohn, Professor, Biomedical Engineering and Professor, Dentistry and Jianping Fu, Professor, Mechanical Engineering, Professor, Biomedical Engineering, and Professor, Cell & Developmental Biology, have received this distinction.

Professor Kohn was honored “for distinguished contributions and leadership to the fields of biomaterials and biomechanics, with particular emphasis on the regeneration of mineralized tissues and characterization of their mechanical function across dimensional scale.”

Professor Fu received his award “for outstanding contributions to the field of stem cell bioengineering and its applications for regenerative medicine and understanding human development.”

In addition, Dr. Lisa Waples, who conducts individual career consultations with UM BME students and co-hosts resume preparation and career networking webinars for our students each year, was named a BMES Fellow this year.

The Fellow level of membership is a prestigious honor recognizing outstanding achievement in biomedical engineering. Fellows have demonstrated impactful achievements and made significant contributions to the biomedical engineering community and to BMES. They are active leaders in the profession and within the Society.

The new BMES Fellows were honored during the 2023 BMES Annual Meeting in Seattle, WA, on October 12.
