Master’s Curriculum
Our MS degrees in biomedical engineering are awarded through the Horace Rackham School of Graduate Studies. Under the guidance of BME faculty advisors, students plan a course of study in one of five concentrations.
MS Concentrations
- Students complete a course plan of study at the start of their graduate studies, following the Curriculum. The Plan of Study form can be found in the Graduate Forms Folder. Students’ classes can change from their original plan of study while they are a student, but their final M.S. courses ultimately must meet the overall guidelines as outlined in the Curriculum.
- Information on all graduate concentrations can be found here.
- As described in the Curriculum, MS students may participate in Directed Research for credit, through BIOMEDE 590. Guidelines for Directed Research are also found in the graduate forms folder.
MS Requirements
The MS degree requires 30 credits of coursework broken down as follows:
- 1 math course from an approved list
- 1 stats course from an approved list
- 2 BME graduate seminars
- 1 minimum experiential course from an approved list
- 1 core course based on the concentration choice
- Technical electives based on the concentration completing the 30 credit requirement
Students will need to complete a course in Bioninstrumentation if a similar course was not previously completed prior to joining the program.
Research Opportunities
Research opportunities are as diverse as the research areas of our faculty, who come not only from the College of Engineering and the Medical School, but also from:
