Congratulations to Zhen Xu, Professor, Biomedical Engineering, Radiology and Neurosurgery, on receiving the IEEE Carl Hellmuth Hertz Ultrasonics Award at the 2024 Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control Joint Symposium in Taipei on Monday. This is the highest honor for mid-career researchers in ultrasonics internationally. IEEE is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the world’s largest technical professional organization.
The organization bestowed this award “For Prof. Xu’s invention, development, and clinical translation of histotripsy, the first non-invasive, non-ionizing, and non-thermal ablation technology based on ultrasound.”
“I am incredibly honored to join the ultrasound research leaders who have received the IEEE Hertz Ultrasonics Award,” Dr. Xu said. “This is an outstanding recognition of the 20-year effort of our Histotripsy Laboratory and collaborators to bring histotripsy to FDA approval.”
